Binc IMAP is a Maildir-based IMAP server that is modular and well-designed.
For those already familiar with qmail-pop3d, Binc IMAP will feel like a natural choice. It is invoked in a similar manner and uses checkpassword for authentication. One of the standout features of Binc IMAP is its ability to compile and run on a variety of operating systems, including but not limited to Mac OS X, RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE and Debian Linux, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, and Solaris/SunOS.
"Binc IMAP" supports several features that make it an incredibly user-friendly software solution. One of the things that stand out most is just how easy it is to both install and use. Moreover, Binc IMAP is designed to be fully compliant with RFC3501 and implement IMAP4rev1. Additionally, the server can be configured to require either TLS or SSL for authentication, making it an especially secure option.
Other exciting features of Binc IMAP include its capability to work concurrently with other mailbox accessors, as well as any other POP or IMAP servers in use. Binc IMAP's auth modules are pluggable through checkpassword and connect to many third-party software extensions such as PAM, vpopmail, LDAP, and more. Finally, Binc IMAP actively supports Maildir, making it a compelling option for those looking to manage their email in this way.
