Box Editor allows users to set precise bleed and trim settings for PDF and PDF/X files, ensuring accurate printing and professional results.
The new software from Apago offers advertisers the ability to import and export bleed and trim data using the latest XML format, which can create a "Library" of ad specifications for different publications. Box dimensions can be entered as decimals (2.25) or in fractions (2 1/2), and the powerful Grouping feature allows advertisers to position both the trim and bleed boxes together. With unique capabilities, Box Editor can act as a control panel for digital ads, where publishers can view PDF/X-specific data such as Trapping status and OutputIntent values.
Moreover, the software's "Vue/X" mode configures Acrobat to view PDF/X files correctly, making it easy to delete all of the content outside the trim or bleed area using just one mouse click. The Fonts and Colors tabs can be used to identify all the fonts and colors used in an ad quickly.
Apago's open XML format enables publishers to publish ad specifications on their websites, thus allowing advertisers to download the XML file and import it into the Box Editor software. The XML format provides all the specifications for each publication in one downloadable file, eliminating any data entry errors. Although XML is not a new format, previous attempts were complex and not widely implemented. However, Box Editor offers a simple and affordable software tool for advertisers to import and manipulate data with ease.
Publishers can make ad specifications compatible with Box Editor available for downloading from their ad production sites, such as Time, Inc., and CMP Media, by late March 2004. Other publishers interested in making their specifications available can access and view the format compatible with Box Editor on the Apago website at www.apago.com, free of charge and with no usage restrictions. Users require Adobe Acrobat 5 or later to access the software.
