DisplayConfigX offers various resolutions and matches them to your monitor's capabilities.
One of the best things about DisplayConfigX is that it can produce pretty much arbitrary resolutions, depending on your hardware. So, if you're looking for higher resolution settings, or if the default resolutions aren't working for you, DisplayConfigX has got you covered.
This software is compatible with most decent VGA monitors and graphic cards, as well as DVI monitors and HDTV-style devices. It has been designed to work seamlessly with most modern systems and graphics cards.
In the latest version of DisplayConfigX, the developers have added the option to keep default resolutions. This feature is particularly useful for users who prefer to stick with established settings.
To use DisplayConfigX, you will need a Mac running OS X 10.2.x, 10.3.x, or 10.4.x. In addition, you'll need a PowerMac G3, G4, G4 dual, G5, G5 dual, Mac mini, PowerBook G4 (with external monitor connector), iMac G5 (with mirror patch), or eMac. Sadly, this software is not compatible with PowerBook G3, iMac CRT version, or iBook.
To work with DisplayConfigX, you'll also need a graphics card that's compatible with the software. This includes NVIDIA GeForce 6800, FX, FX Go, and 4MX (although 2MX requires 10.3.x), as well as ATI Radeon and certain Rage Pro 128 models. Other graphics cards may be supported if they are sufficiently integrated with Mac OS X, but older NDRV-style drivers won't work. Unfortunately, DisplayConfigX does not support ATI Rage, Rage Mobility, or Rage Pro because they lack required features.
Finally, to use DisplayConfigX, you'll need an analog multi-sync monitor, TFT, or HDTV with the proper connectors. This software supports VGA or BNC, DVI connector, and monitors with automatic frequency checks. DisplayConfigX is compatible with analog and digital projectors, HDTV, LCD/TFT displays, and fixed frequency monitors. It does not support TV output (s-video), interlaced timings, composite sync or sync on green.
