Enable playback of digital talking books for the disabled on iTunes and iPods through conversion software.
The software operates under the assumption that the DAISY DTB mp3 files are named correctly so that they will merge together in sequential order. Additionally, the audio files should be in MP3 format and not encrypted in any way. DTB2iTunes can only merge DTB files produced by DTBMaker 2.0, as they are named in a compatible format. It is possible that other DTBs may also work if they follow the same naming convention.
However, it should be noted that this program is not suitable for DTBs produced by Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic or the National Library Service. These DTBs are not in page order, and therefore, cannot be merged using DTB2iTunes.
To overcome this limitation, DTB2iTunes includes a unique feature that reads a chaptertool.xml file accompanying the book. If this file is available, DTB2iTunes will use it to identify all the navigation points in the book and mark them in the audiobook produced. The current version of DTBMaker for Macintosh creates a chaptertool.xml file every time a book is produced. This feature allows users to jump to any navigation point in the audiobook file when used on an iPod.
In conclusion, DTB2iTunes is an incredibly useful program for merging DTBs produced by DTBMaker 2.0 into a single, easy-to-navigate audiobook file. The additional feature of reading chaptertool.xml files makes it an ideal choice for users who prefer to listen to their audiobooks on their iPods or other similar devices.
