GoogleMapsRipper is a mapping tool that enables users to download high-quality satellite imagery, topographic, and road maps from Google Maps, Bing Maps, and OpenStreet Maps.
Once downloaded, all map segments are stored on your computer's disk, allowing for offline use. Additionally, you can save maps in various image formats such as .Bmp, .Jpg, .Gif, .Tif, and .Png. Georeferencing data can also be saved in XML format or you can create ESRI World Files in a variety of formats including .Bpw, .Jgw, .Gfw, .Tfw, and .Pgw.
GoogleMapsRipper is highly versatile in terms of the coordinate formats it supports, including geographic (latitude/longitude), UTM, and Gauss-Kruger. Moreover, the application even supports local geodetic datum usage. Downloaded map segments are easily converted into the requested coordinate format/projection/geodetic datum and then georeferenced in the same coordinate format.
A user has the freedom to select a target image size, resulting in different map scales (such as 1:50,000), and can easily select the area to download from an on-screen map. This means that you can pan and zoom the world map to find and select the area of interest before downloading it to your computer's disk for offline use.
If you are looking to download a large area, you also have the option of using the application's Batch mode of download. This feature allows massive downloads of several thousand map segments covering a large area of a country to be scheduled and executed over several hours without user intervention.
However, it should be noted that GoogleMapsRipper is not responsible for regulating licensing issues with Google Maps, Bing Maps, or OpenStreetMap if the downloaded maps are intended for non-personal use. Overall, GoogleMapsRipper is a highly versatile and user-friendly application for downloading maps from multiple sources.
