GreatNMS is a multi-user network management and monitoring system that supports both SNMP and TCP/IP devices. With its standard-based functionalities, it can easily discover and monitor thousands of IP nodes, making it an efficient tool for network administrators.
Autodiscovery is made possible through SNMP, TCP/IP, and Microsoft Domains. Plus, with graphical links representation and link status background monitoring, you get a clear and easy-to-understand representation of your devices and connections.
GreatNMS boasts the capability to manage and monitor any vendor’s SNMP or TCP/IP compliant devices, and the ability to compile 3rd party SNMP MIBs and create corresponding custom devices types. The GUI capability to build custom MIB monitoring application and assign it to 3rd party devices make this software incredibly flexible.
This client-server multi-user system includes multiple user profiles, and optional capability to use MS Windows Authentication and profiles. A rich and friendly GUI is available to simultaneous users both locally (at the server) and via remote web-based console. Users can access the software securely via HTTPS, and no special client software installation is required. The encryption and password system is in compliance with the US Department of Defense’s standards.
GreatNMS is compatible with all SNMP versions (SNMPv1, SNMPv2, and SNMPv3) and supports embedded Telnet/Telnet over SSL/SSH/TL-1 configuration option for non-SNMP compliant devices. It even supports both IPv4 and IPv6. Other features include TFTP Client and Server for easy file transfers, as well as sysLog Client and Server.
The software also includes HOST-MIB GUI support, allowing for CPU load monitoring with thresholds alarms and software inventory report for all devices supporting HOST-MIB (like Windows computers). RMON-MIB groups 1, 2, 3, and 9 GUI are supported for any RMON capable devices, while GUI support for many other standard SNMP MIBs is also available. GreatNMS also offers special support for Cisco SNMP agents and MS Windows SNMP agents.
E-mail notification of alarms with customized filters is another added plus of GreatNMS. Alarms are kept in standard SQL Database (Microsoft SQL Server Express is installed with GreatNMS) and allow for viewing/reporting alarms per submap/device/port/interface. With northbound TL1, XML, and SNMP, GreatNMS is the ultimate software for network monitoring and management.
