This software is a free and open source tool that allows for the conversion of HFS+ file systems between case sensitive and case insensitive modes.
Originally, HFS+ was case-preserving, which meant that it retained the case of file names, but ignored it when checking to see if a file existed. However, when Apple introduced the ability to format the file system using a case-sensitive version in 10.4 Server, it made it much easier for users to move files off of case-sensitive UNIX file systems.
HFSConverter was designed with safety in mind. It will read all required data first, and if any error is encountered, it will abort without trying to write any data to the disk. Additionally, the software will only attempt to write data if the disk is determined to be an HFS+ partition. If an error occurs during writing, it will restore the original state of the disk.
Please keep in mind that only Apple Partition or GPT drives are supported at this time. Additionally, drives with multiple HFS/HFS+ partitions are not supported.
