htmlPress minimizes the download size of HTML pages. Formerly known as HTML Squeezer, it simplifies website optimization by compressing or removing certain elements, such as comments and whitespace, to improve load times.
Some standout features of htmlPress include the ability to use macros to simplify your HTML and the option to compress your source code. Recent updates have expanded the capabilities of the script, with new CSS compression support, the capability to replace CSS id names with shorter, generic ones defined in a configuration file, and improved XML support.
HtmlPress also includes various new options, including the ability to check all hyperlinks, to insert DOCTYPE declarations to meet W3C standards, and to run consistency checks to potentially catch errors in your code like lowercase tags or overlooked meta elements.
All debug messages now go to STDERR, and htmlPress has added a few new subroutines like "msg" and "err" to improve how it handles messaging. The processing also now stops at "__END__" on a separate line.
