iDof is a plugin for Lightwave 3D that provides depth of field functionality.
When using iDof, users will find that they are using two Image Filter plugins that should be added in the Image Processing Tab of Lightwave's interface. One of these plugins generates a depth matte that is much better than Lightwave's default depth buffer, which is crucial for generating realist depth of field effects. The other plugin is optional and provides post processing blur based on the depth matte generated by the first plugin.
One thing to note is that the downloadable version of iDof is only a 10-day trial, after which users will need to purchase the full version to continue using it.
The latest release has seen some exciting new changes to the iDof channels. These include the addition of an RGB matte type and tieing the software to the user's dongle. Another significant change is that the 24bit TGA output has now been changed to 32bit TGA output for greyscale matte types.
The iDof Post Blur has also undergone some changes. One of the most significant is that it now offers variable blur from greyscale matte instead of just crossfaded blur. Just like the channels, the post blur also now requires the software to be tied to the user's dongle.
To use iDof, you'll need to have Lightwave 3D 7.5d, 8.x, or 9. installed on your computer. Overall, this software plugin provides a powerful and intuitive tool for anyone looking to achieve realistic depth of field effects.
