This open source tool provides free language learning resources for self-paced study of foreign languages.
One interesting feature of JLearn is that the answer isn't chosen from a list, like with other flash-card software. Instead, you must type the answer explicitly. This helps to avoid small variations in the language and encourages you to really learn the vocabulary.
It's worth noting that JLearn was developed by a French programmer, so all of the dictionaries are written for French speakers. However, there are still several languages available to study, including: Japanese (with around 1500 words and several lesson books), Russian (with approximately 20 words), and Chinese (also with around 20 words). These languages were used as tests to demonstrate the software's ability to handle different fonts.
In terms of requirements, you'll need to have JDK 1.4.2 or later installed to run JLearn. Overall, if you're interested in learning a new language and prefer a flash-card style approach, JLearn might be worth checking out!
