K750iGrabber - Prevent crashes when disconnecting SonyEricsson K750i from Mac
Version: 1.0After getting my SonyEricsson K750i phone, I was delighted to see that it comes with a USB cable included (which can even be used to charge the phone). My happiness was slightly dampened, though, when I realized that my Mac seemed to crash every time shortly after disconnecting the phone from the USB port. Not good. Since charging over USB seemed like a rather slick thing to be able to do, there had to be some way to get this to work.
Operating System: Mac OS X
After some more investigation, it turned out that the K750i not only provides a card reader interface over USB, but also provides several interfaces for modem and device configuration functionality. As Bluetooth is plenty fast for the former, and there are no Mac device drivers for the latter, I built a simple driver that seizes all those unused USB interfaces and disables them.
And indeed it turned out that, with that driver installed, I could now connect and disconnect the K750i without crashing my Mac. Yay!
