K'lia is a Marathon Map Viewer software that allows users to view Marathon game maps in a 3D perspective. It provides players with an immersive experience while navigating through the game and planning strategies for winning.
K'lia was primarily developed to help familiarize users with the marathon data formats, with the hope of eventually creating a map editor. Although that objective is still far away, this project has been an excellent first step and may serve as the base of another program, or even a way to import files from merged maps.
The latest release of K'lia comes with a few improvements worth mentioning. Buffering code has been enhanced, which enables faster speed at normal to wide zooms, while extreme close-ups are still drawn on the fly. Whatsmore, the Map Inspector has been added, making it possible to examine objects and polygons.
Also, if you've experienced problems with incorrect object placement or zooming, you'll be pleased to know that the latest version of K'lia fixes these issues. Additionally, maps built with pfhorte are now displayed correctly (but unmerged Forge files are still not supported). Maps that had exit polygons were also drawing incorrectly in previous versions, so you may need to toss out prefs to fix completely.
Another practical feature of K'lia is that selecting teleporters now shows the destination in orange on the map. Lastly, monster names and other marathon data are now kept in plists within the application package for convenience.
All in all, K'lia is a solid tool for Marathon 2 and Infinity enthusiasts looking for a custom open-source map viewer that can handle various data formats. Plus, with the full source code, it's a great option for those interested in building their own map editor.
