Scientific plotting utility available at no cost for researchers.
The program incorporates a fan data compression algorithm, which substantially reduces plotting time for dense plot data. It also has built-in cubic spline interpolation routines that allow for data smoothing, and a full function scientific calculator (RPN), enabling users to transform input data easily. Besides standard two-dimensional Cartesian plots, McPlot provides an option to display three-dimensional data in a spherical perspective geometry, with input options and data interpretation automatically adjusted for each format.
McPlot is accessible in two modes- interactive, with on-line help, from terminals that support graphics output, or as a background process executing previously created plot commands. The program is compatible with the X Window System, DEC VT/220, and Tektronix 4014 compatible terminals (xterm) and PostScript laser printers.
McPlot accepts data files produced by Matlab or ACSL, as well as user-generated ASCII, Fortran, and C Language binary files in a general matrix format. The software does not have any built-in limits on the size of the data files it can handle. Memory for plot data storage dynamically allocates as per the available machine memory.
In addition to the plotting utility, McPlot provides a fundamental C Language utility plot library, similar in function to the standard CalComp library, which can be linked with a user's subroutines to create specific applications requiring graphics output. Overall, McPlot is an excellent choice for anyone looking to create accurate graphs and charts with ease.
