This is a MIDI generator software for Mac users that is completely free.
The pitch parameter assigns a weight to each pitch in the scale. When the randomizer selects a note to be played, it randomly chooses a pitch from those pitches whose weights are non-zero. The likelihood of any given pitch being chosen is the weight of that pitch divided by the weight of the sum of the weights of all other pitches.
The rhythm parameter controls the likelihood of a step sounding (note on). A step can be guaranteed to sound (100% likely) or silenced (0%). By default, each step is 100% likely to sound.
The slide parameter controls the likelihood of monophonic synthesizers gliding from pitch to pitch if more than one note is held at once. The software generates the likelihood of sliding for each step.
The octave parameter assigns a weight to each octave. When the randomizer selects a note to be played, it randomly chooses an octave from those octaves whose weights are non-zero. The likelihood of any given octave being chosen is the weight of that octave divided by the weight of the sum of the weights of all other octaves.
The root note parameter controls the octave chosen for a given pitch. Notes lower than the designated root note will be played in the next highest octave. This parameter ensures that chord voicings are not inverted and that the correct octaves are played.
The accent parameter controls notes played with stronger than usual velocity. The software generates accent parameters by pitch or by rhythm. By default, accents are chosen by pitch. When accents are chosen by pitch, each pitch has a likelihood. By default, all pitches of C-Major are 25% likely to accent. When accents are chosen by rhythm, each step has a likelihood. By default, each step is 25% likely to accent.
Overall, the Midi Randomizer software is a great tool for generating MIDI files with various randomization parameters. Its ability to control pitch, rhythm, octave, root note, and accent parameters is impressive. The software is free and open source, making it accessible to a wider audience.
