This software connects a Macintosh device using OS X operating system to a Windows server with Active Directory, allowing for seamless integration and access to shared resources.
With MSAD Login, the system keeps the local password in sync with the server while notifying users of any password changes made using other computers. This is a major improvement over the Apple method. Additionally, password changes also update the default keychain password, eliminating the need for manual password setting. The software can use administrator accounts that do not expire.
One of the most beneficial features of MSAD Login is its share menu. This status bar menu allows for easy mounting of shares, displaying each share using full length names and not limiting the name to fourteen characters like Apple's Samba system. The share menu also shows whether the server is online, thus preventing unnecessary checks. It is possible to filter the menu to display only favorite shares or show all shares. Selecting the connection menu lets you view available shares, mount your home drive, and update your connection.
MSAD Login constantly checks the server for password expiry and provides notifications down to the last second. Unlike Apple's Connect to Server, share mounting with MSAD Login is swift and straightforward, even if the Windows share has spaces in its name. The mounted shares also appear on Finder and can be ejected like any other mounted item. The software can use the CIFS protocol if available, or else it will use the SMB protocol.
All in all, MSAD Login is a highly effective software allowing for seamless integration of Macintosh OS X machines with a Windows server running Active Directory. Its unique features make it highly suitable for Powerbooks and satisfying for Windows network administrators.
