This software allows for complete remapping of MIDI output for the Livid Ohm controller. With comprehensive customization, users can enhance their music production capabilities.
Additionally, Ohm Connect offers control mapping to OpenSoundControl format (OSC), sending messages to Max/MSP "receive" objects as well as changes to the usage of the Ohm's controls that create toggles and "shift-key" functions. With the ability to store setups in all 32 presets and save them to a file, users can easily access and customize their preferred settings.
When used for MIDI remapping, OhmConnect relies on the operating system's internal MIDI routing software to send MIDI messages between applications. For Macintosh users, the IAC bus or Network MIDI is set up in the Audio MIDI Setup utility. For Windows XP, third-party "loopback" routers such as MIDI Yoke and Maple MIDI can be used.
For instance, if software does not differentiate between CC and note messages, then the Ohm's A1 slider, outputting CC# 0, and grid button #1, outputting Note# 0, will be seen as the same controller by the software. This issue can quickly be resolved by remapping the note to a value of 57 and sending it on the IAC bus or MIDI Yoke bus from OhmConnect to the other software.
OhmConnect also features a testing utility accessed from the Test menu, which allows users to confirm that each knob and slider outputs the full range of 0-127, and the buttons output the appropriate note. Additionally, in case of hardware issues with the Ohm, users can easily open the Testing Window, press each button one-by-one, and move each knob and slider through the full range to identify any fault.
Overall, Ohm Connect is an indispensable software for anyone who desires complete control and customization of their Ohm device. With the versatility and ease of use, it is an ideal software for music enthusiasts with varying levels of experience.
