OSXnews is a Usenet newsreader software that is threaded and built with Webcore. It is designed to efficiently organize and display Usenet discussions on Mac operating systems.
Though it doesn't support every feature you might want in a newsreader, OSXnews covers most of the bases. It's a Universal Application that works seamlessly on Intel Macs, and it also has some support for binary posts (currently limited to single part yEnc posts, but full support is coming).
Recently, the program has received a number of updates and improvements. Version 1.8 brings a number of bug fixes and language additions including Polish and Italian localizations. The menu has been updated to show expand all threads as expected, and double-clicking now expands full threads again. There have also been significant improvements to text encoding detection and handling. The program now downloads missing content types and newsgroup headers to ensure complete access to all content.
Other new features include collapsing split views and the ability to remember positions in split views. The program offers support for Q-encoding and added support for many language encodings such as Euc-Kr, Latin-9, ISO-8859-16, Koi8-R, windows-1251, Big5, and GB2132.
Overall, OSXnews is a solid newsreader that offers many of the features most people need. While it may not be the most feature-rich program on the market, it's fast, reliable, and actively being developed, so we expect great things from it in the future.
