PackUpAndGo software provides a simple drag-and-drop interface to Unix's compression and archiving utilities.
Despite this limitation, PackUpAndGo can safely archive most documents created under Mac OS X, especially those created by Cocoa-based applications. Besides its compatibility, the main advantage of using PackUpAndGo is its use of non-proprietary standard formats.
This application has a range of key features, which include Drag & Drop of Files and Folders, capability to pack and unpack universally standard archives, and ability to handle single or multiple files and/or folder combinations. Additionally, PackUpAndGo is available through Services or by dropping on the application icon. It also has an optional feature to convert to ASCII encoding (uuencoded).
Other unique PackUpAndGo features include the ability to work even without write permission on file's directory, console that logs actions and errors, and it is fully multithreaded so that new jobs can be started even when old ones are running. The Jobs Panel keeps track of all compressions in a session, window sizes and locations remembered between sessions, and it uses gnutar and gzip where available. Users can choose time versus space on compression, compress in place or in temporary directory, save compressed files when encoded, and set the group. There is an automatic ASCII Encoding option provided for mailing.
One minor limitation of PackUpAndGo is that it is only available as a 30-day trial version. Overall, if you're looking for a simple, intuitive and versatile archiving and compression software that can handle universally standard archives, PackUpAndGo is a solid choice.
