Portable Newspeak is a compact and easy-to-use IRC client designed for use on portable drives. With this software, users can stay connected to IRC channels on-the-go, without the need for additional hardware or software installations.
Installation is quick and easy. Simply drag the "Portable Newspeak" folder onto your portable device, whether it's a USB thumb drive, iPod, portable hard drive, or memory card, as long as it has enough free space. Then open the Portable application by clicking on the "Portable Newspeak" icon. It may take a moment before Newspeak starts up, so be patient. If there is a local copy of Newspeak running, an alert window will prompt you to quit it.
What's great about Portable Newspeak is that you can also copy your IRC servers, channels list, and saved transcripts to it. When the "Copy preferences" window pops up, simply click "Yes" to use your existing settings. These settings are saved within the Portable Newspeak bundle, in the "PortableNewspeak.app/Contents/Resources/app/" folder. The chat transcript files can be found in the "/Portable Newspeak/Newspeak Transcript" folder.
One of the standout features of Portable Newspeak is that it is 100% standalone. It's also wrapped in an application package with Platypus, making it incredibly easy to use. The application automatically copies preferences if you desire, and it will prompt to quit Newspeak if there is already a copy running.
If you have any questions or encounter issues, the developers have set up an OS X Portable Applications support forum where you can post your queries, tips, suggestions, clues, bug reports, and get help from the community. Overall, Portable Newspeak is an excellent IRC client that is now even more convenient and accessible thanks to this portable app.
