The QuickTime plugin facilitates GUI creation for 4D database apps.
One of the best features of QDrop is its plug-in area. This area can be placed on any 4D form and used as a drop zone. You can adjust the size of the QDrop area to cover the entire form window, or you can place it behind specific form objects, other plug-in areas, and more.
QDrop is especially well-suited to revamp areas of a database that involve working with files and folders, particularly image databases. With QDrop, you can easily configure each area to accept only the filetypes that you want it to accept. On Windows, you can use 4D's MAP FILE TYPES command to associate Windows file extensions with MacOS filetypes.
To configure a QDrop area, all you have to do is create an array of droppable file types and assign it to the area. The area will automatically react to the designated file types, and users will get visual feedback that the drag-and-drop is accepted. Developers will receive a drop event, and they can program how the drop action should be handled.
QDrop also has "magic file types" that are defined to make the developer's job easier. "Any" denotes that all files are accepted, "fold" denotes that folders are accepted, "qti*" means that all images understood by QuickTime are accepted, and "qtm*" accepts all movie formats understood by QuickTime.
Finally, if you want to use QDrop for importing image files that you will subsequently handle with QPix, you don't need to configure the drop area separately for GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PICT, etc. All you have to do is configure the drop area for "qti*", and all these types will be accepted automatically.
Overall, QDrop is an excellent software that simplifies the process of working with files and folders in 4D database applications. Its plug-in area, user-friendly interfaces, and magic file types make it an essential tool for developers.
