Quizville's Can You Spell . . . ? software assists kids with spelling and writing.
Users working with TextEdit should select the 'Make Plain Text' option under the 'Format' menu bar. Note that the file cannot be renamed and must remain named as Week1.txt to function properly. An excellent management tip is to make separate folders within the application folder (e.g. List One; List Two, etc.) and create a new Week1.txt document in each. This method reduces the program's cost as it does not require a database. The online database version is currently in development but remains unavailable for use.
Users can add as many words as they would like to the Week1.txt document, as there is no limit. Each line in the file contains three words: the spelling word, the crossword puzzle game clue, and a phonetic spelling for the computer to pronounce (currently unused but intended for an upcoming version with Text-to-Speech testing options). The program's design aims to teach about 20 words; however, it is difficult to predict how many words will be used in the crossword puzzle section- it may vary from 5 words to more. Overall, Can You Spell. . . ? offers an excellent spelling teaching tool for users seeking a simple and efficient software experience.
