This software searches multiple DNA fasta files against Rfam using a shape-index as guidance.
By comparing the extracted shapes for the query sequence to a previously calculated shape index, RNAsifter filters out those families that do not match the query. The software then diligently sifts through the remaining potential candidate families, using only those that offer the most hope for a match.
Once RNAsifter has identified a few potential matches, it utilizes the program cmsearch to confirm membership within the candidate families. RNAsifter is an excellent tool for anyone who wants to quickly and accurately identify potential family matches, all while taking advantage of the most effective methods employed by the Rfam database.
