Three chess variants are supported: Normal chess, Chess960 and hexagonal chess.
Scatha supports human vs computer, human vs human or computer vs computer games. Games can be exported and imported in the PGN format.
The GUI uses the Universal Chess Interface protocol to communicate with the chess engine. This makes it possible to load third-party chess engines like Fruit, Hiarcs or Shredder and use them in the Scatha GUI.
