This software allows users to connect to a remote shell daemon using ICMP protocol, rather than traditional TCP. It streamlines the connectivity process and offers an alternative solution for remote access.
The Soicmp server works as a daemon that must be initiated on the remote server. When the server receives a request from the client, it inspects the packet's payload that must adhere to certain protocol rules. The client must specify the command, communication mode (echo|echo/reply), and authentication (y|n).
Soicmp has several key features, including platform independence, the possibility to run the daemon on multiple ethernet interfaces simultaneously handling multiple client connections, the ability to specify the buffer size of outgoing packets, client-side source IP address spoofing, remote client case-sensitive (plain-texted) authentication, the possibility to select two communication types, and no listening sockets listed by netstat or similar programs.
It is important to note that Soicmp is provided and licensed under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License.
