SoundDog is a user-friendly AppleScript droplet that utilizes QuickTime to provide sound inspection for users. It simplifies the process of identifying sound problems and offers a quick resolution of such issues.
What sets SoundDog apart is its ease of accessibility. The software is designed to be placed in your folder toolbar, so you can quickly drag and drop any audio file onto SoundDog's icon to hear playback and view a detailed description of the file. This saved me a considerable amount of time, as I no longer had to open audio files to check their details.
Some of the information SoundDog displays include the file name, path to file, playtime, file size, audio format, whether it’s stereo or mono, bit depth, sample rate, file type, file creator, data type, date created, and date modified. These properties were essential in my work as I could easily identify files that needed editing or tweaking.
Another benefit of this software is its flexibility. You can mount it on your desktop and place the application folder anywhere on your startup volume. If you want to use SoundDog in Finder Window toolbars, merely drag the application icon into the Finder toolbar. It will then appear in all (metal) Finder Windows.
Finally, I also appreciated how simple it was to uninstall SoundDog. To do so, you only need to command-drag or control-click on the icon to remove it from your toolbars.
Overall, I found SoundDog to be a reliable software that significantly simplified my audio editing process. I would highly recommend this software to anyone in need of a quick and comprehensive way to check the properties of audio files.
