A guitar ear training software, The Ultimate Guitar Ear Trainer enhances the auditory skills of guitarists, enabling them to play music by ear, rather than relying on visual cues.
Traditionally, ear-training methods have been valuable, but not directly applicable to the guitar. Many guitar players cannot play a melody they hear in their heads without hunting for notes. UGET changes this by helping guitarists learn to play melodies with ease.
UGET works by developing your relative pitch. With good relative pitch, users can play a complete melody after hearing it just a couple of times without the need to hunt for notes. However, those who are naturally talented in playing by ear may not need UGET as much.
Unfortunately, there are some limitations to UGET. The software only offers one position (2cd) in the demo version, compared to the full version where users can choose any position between Open and 12th. Additionally, only 4-beat melodies are available in the demo version, while the full version allows users to choose any or all melody lengths between 1 and 16 beats. The melody range UGET uses to create melodies is restricted to +/- a major 3rd in the demo version, while the full version allows users to select ranges up to and including a full octave. Lastly, randomization is disabled in the demo version, while the full version includes the ability to indicate how much randomization is applied to the major and minor scales UGET uses to create melodies.
Overall, UGET is a helpful tool for guitar players who want to improve their ear-training and play melodies without the need to hunt for notes. While there are some limitations to the demo version, the full version provides more options and flexibility to truly enhance one's ability to play by ear.
