Cutting optimization software aims to decrease rectangular sheet size while maximizing the number of parts on the sheet.

However, the running time of this software varies based on the process mechanism for each unique case. Additionally, each decision is made without regard for future consequences, which can sometimes result in a sub-optimal solution. The algorithm does continue to push parts downwards and leftwards until they reach a stable position.
The order of the parts in the optimization process has a significant impact on the design result. Cutting the largest area first produces the highest utilization result because the empty spaces created by large parts are easily filled with smaller ones.
The software works with each group of elements being a subgroup of a layout. At the beginning of the optimization process, each group contains just one element. However, during the optimization, some groups are merged to create larger ones. At each step, two or more groups are combined into a new group until all groups merge into one, representing the entire layout. Overall, this software provides a useful solution for optimized design cutting.
