The calculated transformation parameters can be entered directly into suitable transformation software, such as the TRANSDATpro Coordinate Transformations, or into the calculation software of GPS receivers for exact coordinate transformations.
The seven or three transformation parameters are computed with a set of individual identical points. These are points with known coordinates in both reference systems (geodetic datum). The program supports Cartesian coordinates, geographical coordinates, or UTM coordinates with or without ellipsoidal height using the ellipsoid dimensions. Identical measuring points of higher order can typically be inquired or referred by official institutions for measurement. The software program provides necessary ellipsoid half-axes and flattenings available in the program for the selection from lists.
The coordinates of identical points are tested extensively for outliers and deviations by various statistical procedures. The computed parameters' quality is documented by a residual matrix and through middle, maximum, and root mean square (RMS) deviations.
