MeggieSoft Games' Canasta is a feature-rich two-player software that accommodates both Classic and Modern American rules. It allows users to play against a computer or online opponent using personalized audio, visual and game options.
Canasta comes equipped with six different computer opponent skill levels to choose from, so you can practice playing anytime, even without internet access. The game is typically played with a 108-card deck, comprising two standard packs alongside four Jokers. The objective of the game involves taking, merging, and discarding cards strategically to score more points than your opponent.
During gameplay, players can either draw new cards from the stock or pick up the discard pile if the top card can be merged immediately. Melded cards score points in addition to bonus points if seven cards (Canastas) are successfully melded. Each round or game ends when one player has no more cards in hand or the stock is depleted. The first player to reach 5000 points is declared the winner.
Thanks to MeggieSoft Games' intuitively designed user interface, players have access to multiple features such as realistic animated card movement, right-click pop-up menus, hints, tutorials, automatic play and save and restore functionality in case a game needs to be paused. Also included are customizable scoreboard settings, uncluttered main window layout, status-bar shortcut buttons, and fully customizable main display font and wallpaper effects for the table, playing mat, and card backs.
