The results are twofold: First, we can predict which products a customer is likely to purchase based on their buying behavior. For example, if a customer purchases tracks 23, 67, and 44, we can predict that they will also be interested in track 17, and even track 86. Second, analyzing purchases made by other customers can be conducted either as a daily task, or even in real-time for a single customer while they are making their purchases on the site.
In practical terms, when a customer buys one track, the script checks which other tracks are usually purchased with it, and displays links to those tracks on a right-side panel, which attracts the customer's attention. The same process is repeated when the customer buys a second track (whether or not it's from the right panel), and so on, until the customer either stops buying or exceeds the knowledge hidden in the purchase transaction data. This approach results in customers finding music tracks that match their interests more easily, and thereby increasing their purchasing frequency.
