AMS is a software suite that includes multiple programs designed to work with Asterisk.
The libami (AMI) C library is an integral part of AMS, making it easy to execute commands through Asterisk's Manager Interface. This library is utilized extensively in both AMP and AMA, and users can even use it in their own software. The proxy daemon, AMP, is designed to address an outstanding issue with Asterisk's Manager Interface: the interface doesn't respond well to excessive connections. Therefore, a proxy daemon is a suitable solution. AMP serving as a proxy can also record statistics and activities of call center agents, along with its main function.
AMA is a GTK application designed to monitor and administer an Asterisk server. It requires AMP for connectivity and boasts several functions, including a few planned ones for the future. AMA was inspired by Asterisk's gastman client, which was well made but too small for practical use, especially in a corporate environment.
The latest release of AMS comes with minor bug fixes dealing with ampd not sending events properly. Therefore, the AMS software suite is an excellent choice for those seeking efficient and effective management and administration of the Asterisk Open Source PBX.
