This software enables instant messaging via the AIM and ICQ platforms through both a client and a library option.
It's important to note that the features outlined as supported in daim refer only to the library component. However, as soon as someone creates the GUI components of various protocol features, they can be seamlessly added to the existing client. One of the standout features of daim is its support for scripting through Apache BSF.
If you're interested in scripting, the script/ directory in CVS contains sample Jython scripts. Although any language supported by BSF is also supported by daim, including JavaScript and Tcl (among others). Overall, I found daim to have an easy log-in process, with support for ICQ UIN and password.
It's worth noting that daim has full non-TCP support for the ICQ protocol up to ICQ 2003a. Furthermore, it can connect to Apple's iChat client and supports iChat available messages too. In fact, daim can even emulate Apple's iChat client. So if you're looking for a reliable and versatile instant messaging client that packs quite a punch, daim-java is worth a try.
