The DocBook XSL Configurator is a Java-based user interface that generates custom DocBook XSL FO layers for formatting documents.
To create a customization layer for a particular parameter, users would need to click on the tab that contains the parameter they wish to edit. After locating the parameter, users can click on the checkbox under the first column to edit the parameter's setting, and subsequently, click on the editable cell under the "Setting" column heading to customize the parameter. If a parameter contains multiple lines or is an attribute set, users should use the little popup editor that appears when they click the cell.
Once all desired parameters have been customized, users can select "Execute > Write XSL File" to finalize the customization process. The application also features project-related capabilities that allow users to create a PDF or PS file from a valid DocBook XML file. However, before utilizing this feature, users would need to have a complete DocBook production system on their local machine.
Additionally, users can choose to format their DocBook XML via the Mr. XML Publisher website, which can generate PDF, HTML/XHTML, HTMLHelp, JavaHelp, Eclipse Help, Man Pages, and Plain Text (with or without customization layers).
To use the application, users must have the following software: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5 or later, DocBook XML DTD package (version 4.4 or later), DocBook XSL package (version 1.73-2 or later), XSLT processor, FO processor, PDF viewer, and PostScript viewer.
This latest version of DocBook XSL Configurator now provides support for DocBook XSL version 1.74-0, including the addition of DocBook XSL Configurator for HTML and DocBook XSL Configurator for Manpages.
