Edittwiki is an external editor wrapper that allows users to edit TWiki wiki topics. It provides a convenient way to modify content without needing to navigate through the TWiki interface.
Before installing EditTwiki, you must have a current JRE/JDK for your platform installed and ensure that the java executable is in your path. To check if the java executable is in your path, run "java -version" from a command prompt, and you should receive a response from your java installation with its release information.
To install EditTwiki, first, unzip the distribution into an installation directory. Then, add the distribution's bin directory to your path and include the edittwiki.jar file on your CLASSPATH. Next, define the EDITTWIKI environment variable, which should point to the edittwiki.cfg configuration file. Edit the configuration file to reflect the TWiki installation you want to use with this tool.
Once you are set up, you can run "java edittwiki --help" to display usage information. You're now ready to use EditTwiki.
In the latest release, EditTwiki has added initial support for sensible exception and error reporting. It also handles TWiki forms safely and added a cgibin configuration file entry, allowing users to specify the "bin" directory that contains the TWiki scripts. Additionally, the latest release fixed Tempfile creation bugs on Linux.
