Gnome Screen Ruler is a versatile and configurable ruler software that can be customized to suit your requirements, designed exclusively for Gnome.
One of the standout features of the Gnome Screen Ruler is that it allows you to display both horizontal and vertical dimensions. Additionally, you can switch between multiple units of measurement such as pixels, inches, centimeters, picas, points, or percentages. You can even customize the colors and font to your liking.
If you prefer to keep your ruler always-on-top of your application windows, Gnome Screen Ruler got you covered. You can move and resize it with your mouse or keyboard as well. The measurement lines will track your mouse cursor, which makes it easy to measure anything you need on the screen.
The best part? It's free software that released under the GPL license. Recently, this software got an upgraded version which includes new features such as being entirely rewritten in Ruby instead of C. The middle-click also rotates the ruler around the mouse position instead of the upper-left corner.
Additionally, the ruler now shows a left-click target for the popup menu while the mouse is still over it. The unit selection went to the popup menu instead of being in the preferences dialog, which makes it more accessible. Finally, keyboard keys 1-6 now change the unit and the software now uses Cairo over GDK for rendering.
