Gnome-xcf-thumbnailer generates thumbnails for XCF files in GIMP format, providing a convenient solution for quick browsing of image files.
To install the thumbnailer, start by accessing the directory that contains the source code. Then, type "./configure" to configure the package for your specific system. Note that if you're using "csh" on an old version of System V, you may need to type "sh ./configure" instead. This will prevent "csh" from trying to execute "configure" itself.
Once you've started the configuration process, it may take a little while to complete. During the process, the software will print some messages telling you which features it is checking for. Once that process is done, you can then move on to compiling the package. Just type "make" to do this.
Optionally, if you'd like to run any self-tests that come with the package, you can type "make check" at this stage. Once you have run the tests (if desired), type "make install" to install the programs, data files, and any necessary documentation.
If you want to remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory, type "make clean". If you want to remove the files that "configure" created (so you can compile the package for a different kind of computer), type "make distclean". Note that there is also a "make maintainer-clean" target, but this is intended mainly for the package's developers. If you use it, you may need to get all sorts of other programs in order to regenerate files that came with the distribution.
