This software is a Live-CD that is based on both Knoppix and Debian. It is bootable and provides users with a range of useful features and capabilities.
Due to its on-the-fly decompression, grml includes about 2 GiB of software and documentation on CD. It provides more than 1900 software packages, with over 1400 packages still available even after subtracting library stuff. Note, however, that grml does not ship with KDE and OpenOffice, but it does offer more than 700 packages that are not provided by Knoppix.
In addition to these offerings, grml provides several scripts and utils which make life easier. For example, zsh is configured with the completion mechanism, while grml-x is a wrapper for using the X window system. Additionally, people from VC Graz can get a PPTP tunnel just by calling the "grml-pptp-vcgraz" script and entering their username and password.
Finally, grml has made it possible for you to write config files on the readonly filesystem through the "grml-bind" script. All in all, this is an excellent solution for those who are serious about system administration and texttools.
