IPPL is a logging software that captures incoming IP packets to a computer through a daemon service.
One great thing about ippl is that it is free software distributed under the GPL license. You'll need a Linux system with libc version 5 or higher to run it, and if you're running version 5, you'll need to install the pthread library. While ippl was designed to work on various Un*xes systems, it currently only runs on Linux. However, developers are working to make ippl more versatile, and the development version of the software now uses libpcap, which should allow it to run on a greater number of systems.
Ippl also comes with a few new features in this release - including the ability to ignore all packages or log all packages. Additionally, a minor memory leak has been resolved.
If you're a BSD user, ippl's developer would love some feedback on how the software works on your system. They're aware of some issues with pthread_cancel on some Un*ces, and are actively working to address these issues. Overall, ippl could be a valuable addition to your software tool belt if you're in need of packet logging capabilities.
