Netscape Navigator provides better pop-up blocking and heightened security features.
Netscape Navigator offers a suite of features that make browsing the web a more social and personalized experience. For example, you can share and vote for webpages that you find interesting, add friends and get their favorite stories in your sidebar, and follow the latest news directly from your browser. You can even customize your News menu to only show your favorite sections.
Another helpful feature of Netscape Navigator is its URL correction function. This feature allows Navigator to fix common typing mistakes in URLs, so you'll never have to worry about misspelling a website address again. Additionally, the Link Pad feature allows you to save interesting links for later without cluttering your bookmarks.
When it comes to system requirements, Netscape Navigator requires the Linux kernel 2.2.14 or later, glibc 2.3.2 or later, XFree86-3.3.6 or later, gtk+2.0 or later, fontconfig/xft, and libstdc++5 or later. To install Navigator on Linux, simply extract the archive you downloaded and run ./netscape/navigator from a terminal. (There are no formal installation instructions available for Linux.)
If you're upgrading to Netscape Navigator 9, you'll benefit from the following major upgrade notice available today, released as Netscape 9.0.0.6. Once you've accepted and run the upgrade, you'll see a notice denoting the end of support date (March 1) and the recommendations of Flock and Firefox. However, if you'd like to keep Netscape 9 after the end of support date, you can choose "Remind me later" followed by clicking the "Stay with Netscape" button.
For those who choose Flock or Firefox as an alternative browser, there are easy download links available on netscape.com. If you choose Flock, you'll get a seamless upgrade of your preferences from Navigator 9, and you'll have the option to choose a theme that looks a lot like the Navigator theme. All in all, if you're looking for a feature-rich web browser that's easy to use and secure, Netscape Navigator is an excellent choice.
