NOP is a Linux operating system that utilizes the Xfce 4.4.2 desktop and is derived from Puppy Linux 4.0 Dingo.
The distribution is created with minimalism in mind, with games and other non-essential applications removed. Abiword word processor and Gnumeric spreadsheet have been removed; however, users can still add the OpenOffice sfs package or a goffice sfs package to restore Abiword and other useful applications.
Hotpup has been modified to ensure it works seamlessly with Xfce. With NOP, users can install to a flash drive or frugal install on a hard disc drive.
NOP includes a range of useful features that make it an excellent choice for users. Opera replaces the previous Seamonkey web browser, but it also doubles up as an efficient email and BitTorrent client. Meanwhile, xfburn replaces Pburn CD/DVD writer, while xine-ui replaces gxine multimedia player. The distribution also boasts the Orage personal organizer and the galculator, which replaces all other calculators.
In the latest release, NOP has removed gtkam and fotoxx, while adding the useful programs mtpaint and gpicviewer. Meanwhile, several other applications have been updated, including Pschedule, Pwireless, Pmirror, Pfilesearch, and Pbackup.
Overall, NOP is an excellent Linux distribution that offers great performance and user experience. It is especially suited for users who prefer a minimalistic approach to their work.
