Partyman is a straightforward audio player with dual deck functions that provides continuous playback as long as it is in use.
One of the software's main advantages is that it is based upon Qt4, and it needs Qt 4.2 or better to function correctly. The program also employs DerMixD as a backend. Therefore, to use Partyman, you need to have DerMixD up and running. Once DerMixD is running, you can start using Partyman by calling it with "./Partyman list1.m3u list2.m3u ..."
Furthermore, the software has command line options that are introduced by calling "./Partyman -h", which allows for flexibility. So start Partyman with one or more m3u files, which it will use as its primary database. The files it picks should contain absolute filenames that start with "/". If a user has no m3u file to work with, they can create one themselves simply with the "find /path/to/music -iname *.mp3 -o *.ogg > all.m3u" command.
After starting the software, there are three areas of interest; at the top, two players are displayed. In the middle section, you will find a playlist, while the bottom part displays a browser and search applet. To use Partyman, press the "Connect" button to connect to DerMixD. Once the connection is successful, Partyman will begin to play automatically. If the playlist is empty, it will select a random track from the database. Ten seconds before the current track ends, the other player starts playing. The user can also switch to the other player instantly by pressing the "Next" button.
To fill the playlist, users can browse the database with the keyboard or mouse. The enter key, double-clicking, or pressing the right mouse button will add the track to the bottom of the playlist. If it is a folder, all contents, including sub-contents, will be added. Double-clicking, pressing delete, or the right mouse button will delete all selected tracks in the playlist. Users can click and hold a record to move it around.
Additionally, users can use the search feature by entering a substring of the desired track name, and the software will search for the full pathname. Pressing enter triggers the search, and wildcard searching with "*" is supported. Found entries can be moved to the playlist by selecting them and double-clicking, pressing enter, or the right mouse button. Users can press delete to remove them without moving them into the playlist. Users can also unload a track from a player by pressing the right mouse button on the "ready" label.
Complete tracknames will be displayed as tooltips if the ones inside the fields are truncated. The software is relatively easy to build, and users can do this by running qmake of Qt4 and make. However, it is advised to separate all generated from all self-written code. To build DerMixD, users can follow the step in this manner: ".../dermixd$ make SNDFILE=yes VORBISFILE=yes gnu-alsa." To start using Partyman, this is all that users need to know.
