A game suitable for anyone, featuring puzzles.
The developer used his Honours Project engine (SGZEngine) as a starting point and then incorporated ODE for Physics and Horde3D for 3D Graphics. He also modified their Collada Converter to pick up on the extra bits Maya adds to the FCOLLADA format. In just ten weeks, the developer modified the engine and developed a prototype game. Even though it didn't match their original vision, they were extremely proud of what they produced in such a short time.
The game requires two players, and there is no one player mode available. The players must work together and use the character's allergic reactions to Weedunks, little guys with hammers, to overcome obstacles and progress through the levels. The game's controls are laid out on the user interface(UI) and are context-sensitive.
To play the game, press the X button to jump. When beside a Weedunk, press the circle to pick it up. Pressing circle again will throw the Weedunk, and it will go splat when it hits something. Instead of throwing the Weedunk, you can target the other player first (by holding down the R2 button) and then throw the Weedunk by pressing circle. Hitting the other player with a Weedunk causes the other player's character to have an allergic reaction.
You can also take control of the Weedunk (known as "transplant") by pressing the square button when beside him. To release control of the Weedunk, press the triangle button. Instead of throwing the Weedunk at the other player, you can evoke a 'combined allergic reaction.' With a Weedunk in hand, press the triangle button beside the other player.
It's essential to note that with Grando's allergic reaction evoked, the player controlling Grando can increase his height by holding down the X button for maximum upward thrust. In addition, both players control the result of Kohi's (the small blue character) combined allergic reaction.
In conclusion, Plight of The Weedunks is a challenging and exciting puzzle-platformer game. The game's unique concept of using character's allergic reactions to overcome obstacles makes it fun to play with friends. The developer's use of SGZEngine, ODE for Physics, and Horde3D for 3D Graphics has proved immensely useful in creating this game.
