Pvrusb is a Linux driver designed for the WinTV PVR USB, a USB MPEG2 encoder and TV tuner, excluding the standard WinTV USB.
Compared to the PCI version of the WinTV PVR, the USB version has a higher compression ratio, offering better video quality at higher resolutions.
One caveat: support for the Pinnacle Bungee is incomplete at this time.
If you want to use pvrusb, you'll need to have the WinTV PVR firmware ROM from Hauppauge. You can obtain these files by installing the WinTV software on a Windows machine. However, you should be aware that Hauppauge may not want this firmware distributed, so you should exercise caution.
The driver attaches to /dev/usb/lp0, which is a USB printer special file. This isn't an ideal setup, but the developer plans to change this in the future. To save the MPEG2 stream, you can use the command "cat /dev/usb/lp0 > data.mpg". To watch TV, attach a signal to the composite input and use MPlayer.
At present, the tuner is not programmed, but the developer plans to add support for this feature in the future. However, it's worth noting that support for PAL WinTV devices may not be available until the developer can gain access to a PAL WinTV.
