Sbd software is a portable and secure Netcat-clone designed to provide robust encryption.
There are many possible ways in which sbd can be used for networking purposes. For example, the software can be used for secure file transfer, remote administration, simple peer-to-peer chat, and even as a pen-test tool to evade NIDS detection and telnet-style traffic recording. To compile sbd under a Unix-like operating system, you need gcc and relevant development tools, and for Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD (and possibly others), you simply need to type "make unix".
In the latest version of sbd, there are some notable new features. For one thing, if sbd is setuid (chmod 4755 or 6755), sbd will do setuid(geteuid()) on Unix-like operating systems, which allows root shells during pen-tests. Additionally, the host, port, and command to execute (-e option) specified on the command line are wiped with spaces in order to prevent them from appearing in the process list on Unix-like operating systems (e.g. "ps auxww", "ps -Af", e.g.). Finally, the -k option was previously wiped with stars (*), but now it's wiped with spaces (0x20) instead. Overall, sbd is a powerful and flexible software program that can be valuable for a wide range of networking tasks.
