Small Telnet Chat offers a chat server accessible through a telnet client, enabling users to connect and communicate with others.
To start using the chatserver, all you require is a VT100 capable telnet client to connect to the server. Once connected, you need to know the port on which the server is listening since STC can work with any port. The software has been tested with several telnet clients, including PuTTY, Win2000 telnet, WinXP telnet, and Linux telnet (netkit).
Installation of STC is quite simple as no special procedures are required. Just unpack the archive into any directory and run it. The configuration file (config.xml) also needs to be in the same directory as the server. For those who prefer to put the server where executables usually reside (/usr/local/bin, etc.), a .jar file is available.
To start the chatserver, navigate to the directory where the files are copied and run the server by typing: java stc. Overall, STC is a stable and easy-to-use chat server that can be set up in a matter of minutes, making it ideal for small-scale chat applications.
