Solo on the Keyboard is a licensed touch typing tutorial program.
The course was developed by Dr. Vladimir Shahidzhanjan, a psychologist and journalist who conducted detailed experimental research on touch typing. By following the course, you'll develop healthy keyboarding habits without eye strain or RSI (repetitive strain injury), and even come to enjoy the process instead of hating it.
There are plenty of ways to learn touch typing, but Solo on the Keyboard offers a challenging, psychologically correct, and enjoyable path towards developing effective and fast typing skills. The course initially focuses on accuracy and comfort, with speed naturally developing after completing the well-designed tasks.
It's worth noting that the course has a limitation of 40 typing sessions, but other than that, the requirements are minimal. You'll need GLib 2.2.0, GTK+ 2.4.9, GtkHTML Library, and Cairo to get started.
In the latest release, various bugfixes were made and builds for Debian 4.0, FreeBSD 6.2, Ubuntu 7.04, Mandriva 2007, and openSuSE 10.2 were added. Additionally, desktop integration for Debian-based distributions has been fixed and there are small design improvements.
Overall, if you're looking for a touch typing course that's backed by research, enjoyable and effective, Solo on the Keyboard is certainly worth considering.
