SwapIt is a plugin for Vim that allows for keyword swapping in a flexible and customizable manner.
These keys can be accessed by pressing ctrl-a and ctrl-x. SwapIt can also handle multi word swaps, such as converting "Hello World!" to "GoodBye Cruel World!" by selecting the phrase in visual mode ('vi').
Custom swaps can be added by defining a list using the following command: ":SwapList datatypes bool char int float double". The first argument is the list name, while the subsequent arguments are members of the list.
Vim, the text editor where SwapIt is used, was first released in 1991 by Bram Moolenaar for the Amiga computer. It was created as an extended version of the vi editor to help edit program source code. Vim is cross-platform, but it is most popular on Unix-like operating systems. As an open-source software, Vim is free to use. However, the program's license includes some charityware clauses.
Vim's interface is based on commands in a text user interface, which might make it difficult for some users to learn initially. However, users who stick with it are rewarded with efficient and precise editing. To facilitate learning, Vim has a built-in tutorial for beginners along with a users' manual detailing basic and advanced features.
SwapIt has some limitations, including an inability to create the directory structure, as this is an alpha version. To install SwapIt, users should place the swapit.vim file in the plugins directory. This latest release includes speed dating compatibility enhancements as well as the ability to swap phrases with visual mode, along with some bug fixes.
