Thin liquid film is a linux application that provides easy and fast video conversion for iPods.
Thin Liquid Film has a range of useful and exciting features. With this app, you can batch process any number of files, change output settings for one, or many files, get detailed information about source video files, and save default settings for future sessions. You can also configure output quality settings, choose between Mpeg4 and H264 as the output codec, choose between 320 and 640 output video width while maintaining aspect ratio, and select between 1 or 2 pass encoding. You can rest assured that the app will display encoding progress due to the progress bar feature.
TLF uses ffmpeg as the encoding engine, and you can upload encoded files directly to your iPod with the app. Additionally, you can add files to existing or new video playlists on your iPod, set file information for upload to your iPod, and add files for encoding via the included service menu.
Requirements for Thin Liquid Film include pyqt, ffmpeg with xvid/h264 codec support, and libgpod python bindings required for upload to the iPod. The 1.0 release of Thin Liquid Film has recently been launched, addressing a known bug concerning the progress bar. This bug has been traced to Ubuntu's dash shell default, which the app now identifies and guides users on how to fix. The only other changes made are some minor tweaks to the install script.
The next step is to expand TLF's scope to become a task-based GUI for converting video to specific device formats or for particular formats - an exciting development that is sure to happen soon.
