XMMPlayer is a XMMS input plugin that enables users to play video files within XMMS using MPlayer as a back-end.
It is important to note that this product is still in beta-stage and may not work on all systems, or with all video files that MPlayer supports. Users are encouraged to refer to the README section for additional information.
Some of the key features of XMMPlayer include local file playback of AVI, MPEG, QuickTime, and OGG movies using MPlayer, playback of HTTP and MMS media streams, and playback of (individual) VCD tracks or DVD titles. In addition, the plugin displays information such as length, and audio-rate/channels in XMMS. XMMPlayer also utilizes magic to detect AVI, MPEG, RealMedia, and QuickTime movies, and checks for the .ogm extension to detect OGG movies, which helps to avoid MPlayer playing the wrong files. Users can also pause and seek within files from within XMMS.
Other features include a constant, skinned, and dockable video window, which can be turned off in options. Requirements for XMMPlayer include XMMS and MPlayer.
Updates in the latest release include fixed crashes when playing WMA with skinned window enabled, improved DVD/VCD support, and improved audio-only support, although seeking seems to be broken for WMA. The audio output device is now saved to the config file, and TV mode (tv:// tv://channel) has been added. The autotools have also been updated.
Overall, XMMPlayer is a convenient and user-friendly plugin for XMMS, which enables users to easily play various video files within the interface.
