Akk@da is a user-friendly network monitoring software targeted towards small and medium-sized computer networks.
One unique feature that sets akk@da apart is that it is a pro-active network monitor. It doesn't wait for information from any agents or systems - it collects information itself every minute (with the ability to decrease this period to as little as 1 second if needed). Additionally, almost all services of the monitored hosts are discovered automatically, saving you time and hassle.
Some of the key features of akk@da include monitoring host availability, resources and network services using various tools such as SNMP, ICMP, raw TCP, SSL, DNS, and UCDavis script extensions. It also automatically discovers available services on a host such as CPU, RAM, network interfaces, disks, and processes. Furthermore, the software allows for the collection of performance data about monitored services, services flaps detection, and the possible adding of your own probes.
The web-based GUI is easy to use and offers many support features such as alarms presentation with the option to approve alarms, filterable logs, and RRDTool-based graphs with performance. You can also configure monitored services or hosts, manage users and groups, and manage rights to each individual service.
For convenience, the software offers a tree-based host organization that allows for easy browsing and quick navigation. It also supports views, allowing you to arrange monitored services in groups you need, and displaying information in a compact mode to easily estimate the host health on first sight. Plus, it has nice-looking icons that make it easy to identify host/service vendor, function and probe type.
New in this release is a network faults inference engine that detects network faults and correlates them to identify the root cause. It also now offers GTalk and Gadu-Gadu notifications, top 10 utilization reporting, histograms of test periodicity, support for Cisco PIX IPSec tunnels, LVS, Powerware UPS, and F5 BigIP (TMM, virtual servers, pools, nodes, failover, fans, power supplies, temperature), and a freshness guard that watches if services are tested frequently enough.
With many fixes and improvements in this latest release, akk@da is available as a stand-alone app and VMware appliance, making it a great option for network monitoring.
